Heidi is travelling from the cold Swiss mountains to hot Dubai
On Thursday, 21.11.2024, I met Peter Otto Büttner and Peter Polzin from the Heidiseum, Zurich, in front of the entrance to the «Dubai Mall Souk al Bahar». We agreed immediately: Dubai is a city where the sky is the limit and the world meets. I was naturally delighted that the foundation is now launching its Swiss activities for the Middle East from this hub. The two Peter explained to me that Heidi has also been part of childhood memories in Arab countries for decades. The world-famous cartoon series was already broadcast on Arabic television in 1984. The plan now is to showcase the «UNESCO Heidi Archive» in innovative exhibitions and projects in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to promote the spirit of the world’s most famous Swiss story. The origin of the Heidi illustrations goes back to three pictures from 1880, replicas of which we hold in our hands. They were illustrated by Friedrich Wilhelm Pfeiffer, the great-great-grandfather of Peter Otto Büttner. It was a wonderful meeting and we will certainly be seeing each other again soon in Dubai!
