The exciting life of the «George Clooney of Switzerland» - in Dubai
In Dubai, they call me the «George Clooney of Switzerland» – and honestly, there are worse things than being mistaken for a Hollywood star (even though I’m still waiting for my Nespresso contract).
The highlight came on Tuesday, 4 November 2025, when a charming lady surprised me with a T-shirt proudly bearing that title – a belated birthday gift. I had arrived in Dubai late Monday night to prepare for the 4th Fundplat «The Desert Talks» Summit on Wednesday and the trip to Abu Dhabi on Thursday.
After a few meetings in Downtown, I enjoyed a relaxed Tuesday afternoon by the pool at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel, my regular base in Dubai. The new T-shirt quickly became a conversation starter and even led to a few spontaneous photo requests. Apparently, «George Clooney» draws attention in Dubai too – even when he happens to come from Switzerland.
